The Book of World Horoscopes

Nick Campion: The Book of World Horoscopes

I found my copy of Nick Campion’s The Book of World Horoscopes, which happened to contain the foundation charts of the major cities in the direct path of the August 1st, Eclipse, just mere days away.

Canada, Russia and China are getting activity in unique areas of their respective charts; Canada in the 11th & 12th houses, Russia in their 4th, 5th & 9th, and lastly China, with heavy 9th & 10th house influences.

*Note: Please be aware for the following charts that the green planets on the outer ring of each foundation chart represents the August 1st, 2008 Eclipse positions of the planets, there should be the Sun , Moon , Mercury  & Venus  in Leo , and Mars  & Saturn  in Virgo .

Eclipse of August 1st, 2008

Saturn keeps coming up on this blog, and I was discussing with someone that it signifies oil, as that is dead black stuff under the ground, and it comes up in the mars/saturn conjunction in Virgo, and the Leo/aquarius opposition.

As this chart begins in Nunavut (3rd and newest Territory in Canada), passes right over the Arctic Circle, goes exact over Nadym, Siberia, and tapers off in China.

Nick Campion’s “The Book of World Horoscopes” contains these charts, along with the transits of the August 1st, eclipse, beginning with Canada:

Dominion of Canada

Then we move on to the Formation of the Russian Federation:

USSR Formation

And lastly, China, with a difficult chart to choose from, seeing as how their origins as a country fall around the 2nd millenium BC. As the book gives three charts, the formation of the People’s Republic of China during the Chinese Peoples’ Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in 1949 is the chosen chart [1]

Solar Eclipse of August 1st, 2008 – New Real Estate on Uunartoq Qeqertoq

Uunartoq Qeqertoq is the newest island to be uncovered by the receding curtain of ice in the Arctic Circle. As wikipedia puts it:

“Uunartoq Qeqertoq, Kalaallisut for “The Warming Island”, is an island discovered in September 2005 by American explorer Dennis Schmitt off the east central coast of Greenland, 550 km (~340 mi) north of the Arctic circle. It was attached to the mainland by glacial ice even in 2002, when the ice shelves began retreating rapidly in this area, so that by 2005 it was no longer attached to mainland. Members of the scientific community believe this newly discovered island is a direct result of global warming.[1] The island has three large peninsulas, and thus resembles the letter W, or more exactly the cyrillic letter Щ.”

Melting Ice Caps of the Arctic

Melting Ice Caps of the Arctic

This year’s eclipse will swiftly pass through Canada, Europe, Russia and China this year.  The Arctic and Antarctic poles are both seeing a huge loss of ice exposing larger areas of land and bodies of water.  Geographical surveys have everywhere been illustrating this and giving more data to the public and asking us to make less of a ‘footprint’ or impact on the planet.  We are literally using up everything and transforming it into waste which the planet cannot reabsorb.

Other countries are taking note of the environmental change in the north and a cluster#&@% of sorts is beginning to raise temperatures in the geo-political race for new land.  Even Denmark is trying to get some of the new pieces of land, freshly exposed from glacial ice.

Eclipse Path of August 1, 2008

Eclipse Path of August 1, 2008

The Eclipse on August 1st will span from the newest of the three territories of Canada in Nunavut, go total in Nadym in Northern Siberia, and hit Siberia’s capital, Novosibirsk.  The Eclipse will then end in China and Mongolia.

This particular eclipse is going to pass through the arctic circle and very close to the poles.  So astrologically, what part of the earth has just received its own black mark from the Sun and Moon, and currently faces a wash of discussion by the entire world over the fate our existence?  Mundane astrological positions show strong aspects of Saturn and Mars in Virgo, opposing Uranus in Pisces, and the 4-planet stellium in Leo, also opposing planets.

So much of the ice has receded now that real estate, prospectors, oil tycoons and environmentalists are all trying to stake their claim on the land.

Here is the chart for the eclipse point, when the Sun and Moon reach exact degrees at eclipse totality.

These images show the last 30 years of Glacial Melts.  Wikipedia has an article devoted to this topic, spanning back to the year 1850.

With this sudden interest in the north, rising gas prices, searches for alternative energy sources, concern for the environment, what kind of a choice will we make in terms of how we approach the Arctic Circle?  Will it be a cash-grab for resources, akin to how The Globe and Mail, “Record prices put Arctic oil within reach“, or more preventative measures as the world takes heed of global warnings from the North “Nordic nations sound alarm over melting Arctic

The chart for the eclipse this August presents the world with a clear problem which must be deciphered, addressed, and to choose whether or not we will make a responsible choice, or allow nature to carry us along its swift current of fate.

Vedic Astrology Described and Illustrated

Posted in Astrology, Astronomy on July 26, 2008 by Meredith Garstin

This chart represents the Vedic Zodiac with all sanskrit names in place, along with the ruling planets of each sign, nakshatra and navamsa division.  The name of each Nakshatra, also named the 27 Lunar Mansions, contains their respective ruling planets.

This is the chart I drew demonstrating how the divisions fall:

27 Lunar Mansions/Nakshatras

27 Lunar Mansions/Nakshatras -Please click thumbnail for larger image

The ruling planets of the Nakshatras have been added for clearer definition of the symbols, and the sanskrit names of the zodiac are also in place.

Furthermore, Vedic astrology holds that there are nocturnal and dirunal zodiacal signs, split vertically along the Aquarius~Capricorn and the Cancer~Leo axis, meaning that as of the 17nd of August, the Sun sidereally will move from being in diurnal signs to the nocturnal signs.

Please keep in mind that the Vedic chart runs on a sidereal zodiac, therefore tracking the zodiacal cusps by the fixed stars.  Fig.1 is a Tropical Chart, whereas Fig.2 is a Sidereal chart

Lot of Fortune ♏ 15˚ 38′ 36″ 2˚ 8′ 26″

Check the zodiacal positions of the currents transits to see how much of a shift there is.

As the Fixed Stars and the Tropical Seasons endure a slow shift named ‘Precession‘, the earth’s 23.25˚ tilt of the axis makes a full rotation, or ‘wobble’ every 26,000 years. Precession creates this gradual slip of the sidereal and tropical zodiacs, returning to their same zodiacal longitude every 26,000 years.  The slip therefore moves one sign every 2,100 years, or 1˚ every 72 years. As of January 2007, the sidereal zodiac has slipped 24˚ backwards from Aries into Pisces.

A new pole star is therefore aligned with this sidereal tilt, and changes every couple of thousand years.  Currently, Polaris is considered the pole star, being just 2˚ from the earth’s axis.

Spotting Constellations

The sidereal sky can confuse those who attempt to connect the dots when visualizing the constellations as vivid imagery and art.  One website Pixhaven.net has posted some beautiful night skies with both the constellations and the art associated with it.

Regulus (The Lion) & Ursa Major (The Great Bear or the Big Dipper)

It’s difficult to spot the constellations here, so the image below will connect the dots.

A Tribute to an Immaculate Performance

Posted in Astrology, Biographies with tags , , , , , , , on July 24, 2008 by Meredith Garstin

This morning’s 12:01 am premiere showing of Batman: The Dark Knight left a chill in my heart and a shiver down my back.

Heath Ledger’s Performance took my friends and I on a roller-coaster of emotions and was without a doubt the ride we were waiting for through the deep realm of cutting emotions the movie rightfully belonged to.

It seems evident in Ledger’s performance the winding dark cavern of mental process and effort it took to hold such intensity in his character, and fueled the reasoning as to his unfortunate tragedy, and throughout the film made me miss him even more.

I haven’t seen a performance in an actor this consuming and I wanted to pay tribute to his talents, as he has proven himself to the world that he is capable of re-creating one of the greatest villains of all time, and all at once make us love, hate, and revere him.

Ledger died at the age of 28 during his Saturn return

*Note for the non-astrological crowd: The sun takes one year for your birthday but Saturn takes approximately 28 years. Ledger died on his Saturn birthday.

but the date of The Dark Knight’s release today on July 18th illustrates the power of Ledger’s performance as the Joker to the audience with the Mars/Saturn conjunction upon his natal Saturn, combined with Uranus conjunct his Mercury, Neptune Square Uranus, and numerous others. Take a look for yourself.

This is an untimed chart, so the ascendant and houses will be disregarded.

Let it show that astrology, transits and attraction can still be pertinent after death, and the love/hate relationship that we all have with Ledger’s character the Joker is beautifully archetyped in a transiting Mars/Saturn conjunction on his Saturn. A Mars/Saturn conjunction plays upon the ‘too-much, too-little’ complex and the Joker himself is an prime example of these transits. The Joker thrives upon the Bat’s fight against evil in order to survive, and without the Bat, there could be no Joker.

This transit is also reflected in Ledger’s own life with his inability to sleep on account of the work and effort he put into his films. Unable to sleep, his tragic end was met by consuming too many and to broad a spectrum of remedies. A victim of his own efforts and dark transformation for the film.

Congratulations to Heath Ledger for putting his heart and soul into the intricate psyche of this character, and may he forever be crystalized as one of the best villains we have grown to love. Here is to you.

The Moon’s Beating Heart

Posted in Astrology, Astronomy with tags , , , , , , , , , on July 24, 2008 by Meredith Garstin

In the month of January we have the first full Moon of 2007. The internet is frantic with movies of the Moon’s phases throughout any given month. We are accustomed to examining its phases throughout the course of a cycle such as below:

In another approach to analyze the cycles of the Moon, http://www.pixheaven.net/ decided to illustrate the varying distances and wobble phases of each full Moon last year dating back 20 full Moons to May of 2005. The results they collected are below:

  2. June ‘05:
  3. July ‘05:
  4. August ‘05:
  5. September ‘05:

It is excellent that the Moon would not only inaugurate the year so quickly with this luminous full Moon, but also in its own domicile, . The below animation is built on the above images. When you stop to observe the difference between each full Moon, there is a definitive difference depending on each frame in proximity and libration.

The irregular elliptical orbit of the moon is intensified through this snapshot of each full moon, as the orbit is neither a perfect circle, or centered exactly around the earth.

The lunar apogee and perigee of the Moon is different in these shots, giving the impression of a beating heart. This might indicate a reason why some Full Moons are more intense in nature, corresponding to the environment, and the emotional sway of people. Does the Moon consistently beat stronger in certain signs? here is the amount of difference the size between the lunar apogee and perigee is:

The apogee and perigee are explained below. The Apogee is the farthest the Moon can be from the Earth, and the Perigee is the closest the Moon orbits to the earth.

Image courtesy of The National Maritime Museum:

In the end, not only can we view the waxing and waning appearance of the Moon and view her many faces in the course of a month, but now we can see and feel her pulse on the earth, over a longer period of time. If you are curious enough, review the listing of zodiac signs in which the moon was full, and see if you can pick up on which zodiac signs the Moon was the closest and the farthest. Were these heated times for society? This ‘beat’ that the Moon animates itself with, truly adds another facet to looking at the earth as a cosmic animal, with the Sun and Moon pumping and churning the earth’s mantel on a continual basis, much like the heart in our own bodies.

Love the Moon with all of your heart

16 Vargas of Jyotish Astrology Listed & Illustrated

Posted in Kepler College Assignments on July 24, 2008 by Meredith Garstin

In Vedic (Jyotish) astrology there are 16 Vargas that are akin to the Harmonics of a nativity. Remember to think sidereally when considering these branches of the Vargas. The Rasi Varga is the undivided zodiac in its normal form, creating the 12 signs of the zodiac. The other 15 Vargas reveal the subtleties of the nativity, and are described below in this chart:

I haven’t yet found a translation of Jyotish texts that give the different planetary rulerships of these harmonic charts, but all Vedic software “Parashara’s Light” as an example, does. This merely illustrates the breakdown of these Vargas and what their general indications will point towards.

*Note: The ‘parts’ here mean how many sections each zodiacal sign has been divided into, hence only the Rasi Varga is not divided at all.

1. Rasi Varga – Not Divided (12 x 30˚)

  • Physique, behavior, all basic indications (1st house matters)

I’ll be posting my homework here as I get assignments from Kepler College… Kind of working as motivation to post my homework each week and develop some routine. As an internet college student, all of my homework is posted to the web, so I might as well test it out on a blog anyway.  Anything else I stumble upon on the way pertaining to science, astronomy, history, biographies and other astrological topics will be added too.

Here is the chart for the inception of this blog.

YAY!

I hope you enjoy my homework as much as I am going to!
